Mine works perfectly.... Funny, I'm not even a sysadmin, even less a
senior one... :)
Seriously, man, I myself do a lot of administration the hard way using
scripts and the like because there is no tool doing exactly what I'd
want, but one of the main good points of ubuntu is that almost all the
time, almost everything works out of the box, and this include n-m.
Apparently the OP is in one of those situations where it doesn't work.
Before going to writing scripts (which, by the way, is far from an
obvious task) let's he try the ubuntu way.
As for crack the files, I'm not sure is as easy as you think (except
maybe if one is stupid enough to use a weak master password or none at
all... which I'm sure is not your case).
