I appreciate the pragmatism of going with what works. Whether be it
because Windows/Premiere really is a superior solution (and I believe,
at this point in time, it is.. Video editing open source is still very
pre-mature) or because it's what you know.

I think the work you've done so far, which far surpases what most people
would be willing to do, puts a lie to that statement. Well seasoned you
may be sir, I would not call you slow :)

Although I'm sure some people felt that way, I think the vast majority
of people do not. Sometimes, when someone is trying to do something
very complex, they need a grounding in basics. If someone is suggesting
you step back and try this or that reading material to brush up your
skills, it's not because they are trying to brush you off. Whether you
have the time and patience, or whether it's worthwhile for you to pursue
this direction of self-improvement is only up to you, but the people
telling you thus are really only trying to help if that is indeed what
you want to do.

If I understand the fundamental problems you have to Installing and
removal, it seems to me the problem with your Unix education is lack of
disk space. There are several easy and inexpensive solutions to that.
(Inexpensive compared to the time you spend installing/removing an OS to
make room available).. discuss it with your local friendly computer
technician.

Getting rid of Ubuntu, or any other OS, is trivial. Alas, it needs to be
done from the other system.. that is, if you want to remove Ubuntu, you
do it from Windows. If you want to remove Windows, you do it from
Ubuntu. the same goes for any other Operating system. The irony
therefore is, "How do I remove Ubuntu" is not a ubuntu question.

Windows does give an easy to to remove Ubuntu and restore Windows. But
in this case, the OP needs to get back into Windows. (And preferably,
do so without nuking his hard drive and going through the pain of
re-installation.)
