Yes, this thought also crossed my mind. If you did this then the ubuntu
installer would have completely wiped your XP installation...
You should be able to tell if you still have any windows partitions, by
firing up gparted for instance. If this program doesn't show any windows
partitions (NTFS most likely, but perhaps FAT32 etc.) then you are
probably out of luck.
