ubuntu 8.04 lts cups problem

Chris,

Thanks that solved it, I did not have to do the dpkg-reconfigure cupsys. 
The only questions what is the difference of using the commands versus 
using the gui  System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager ? I 
thought that unistalling and reinstalling would accomplish the same things.

Thanks for your help - problem is now solved and I have printing.
