Hi Catalina,
You need to be the "super-user" or "root" to access files in directories
such as /etc/.
If you are trying to add a repository I'd recommend you use:
- System > Administration > Software Sources
- type in your password
- Go to the Third-Party Software tab and select from the list or (if the
repo you're after isn't there then click the "Add..." button and type it
in manually.
