Firefox has a history of breaking compatability between major versions. Sure, they've only done 1.x to 2.x before, but that broke nearly every extension and add-on.

They don't /guarantee/ it, no. But the chances of there being any real change to anything that major this late in the development process is minimal, if not entirely ruled out. By now, it's bug squashing, not feature adding.

Personally, given where it is in the development process and past experience, I'd be much happier relying on my FF3b profile working on FF3.x than my FF2.x profile working on FF3.x.

I'd also rather that if anything happened to make a fundamental change to any application, it did it at some time when I'm expecting fundamental changes, like an OS upgrade.
