Unreadable small font in gdm login gui

The GDM login window uses extremely small fonts, so the username and
the text in the GDM menus are completely unreadable.

Tested with default theme + circles theme, both have the problem.

/etc/gdm/gdm.conf as originally installed.
/etc/share/gdm/themes/<foo>/<bar>.xml all as originally installed.

Using proprietary nvidia driver, screen resolution switched from
1920x1080 to 1280x720 using the "Nvidia X Server Settings" app.

No other changes made to the X configuration.
