please recommend an editor for docbook

I'm not sure it will do what you need, but have a look at Amaya. It is an
open source browser/editor from W3C, the Web standards body.
http://www.w3.org/Amaya/

It has a lot of nice features and works well for HTML. It does do XML,
but I haven't tried that and don't know how well it would work with the
Docbook DTD.

There's a package for it in both Gutsy and Hardy.
