installing Ubuntu 6

Do you have enough RAM? It should be at least 256MB. If you have less than 
that, try the alternate CD or Xubuntu. Other than that, can you tell us 
the specs of your machine? And which version of Ubuntu is it - 6.06 or 
6.10? Both are rather old, maybe the problem is gone with a newer 
version. The latest release is 7.10, and the next release of 8.04 is only 
a few days ahead (but there is a release candidate available already).
