user created during install

I recently installed 8.04 beta.  I've been a long-time Mandriva user,
and have my /home directories on a separate harddrive from the OS.  When
I installed, I supplied my username that I used with my Mandriva
install.  The new user account was associated with the existing /home
directory.  It kept the UID of 501.

However, the username doesn't show up in the Users and Groups option
under System Adminstration menu.

Should it show up there?  If so, is it because the UID is less than
1000?
