It might be a good idea to leave the back-up file creating as default,,
just don't upload it.

As for your passwords, you have to create a bookmark and save the
password in the bookmark.

You might also want to consider simply using nautilus as your ftp
client.  (That's your desktop file manager.).. if you open places, then
type the ftp address in the location bar..
(ftp://username:password@ftp.somewhere.net) and book mark it, that ftp
location will be very easy to access from your computer browser.
