I have a Dell Inspiron 380 C700ST (laptop) with the following specifications:

CPU: Intel Celeron 697Mhz
Ram: 128Mb
Graphics Card: ATI Rage Mobility AGP, 8Mb
Sound card: Sound Blaster 16
Modular Bay: 24x CD-ROM Drive
Display: 800x600 LCD Panel
HDD: 4200rpm 6GB and 5GB Drives (no linux swap partition, 5gb has Windows XP, 6gb has Windows 98; I want to install via Live CD over Win98)

I originally tried Ubuntu 6.10: Edgy Lift but this did not work. It got past the splash screen and then the screen went black. It sat there for 3hours:26min before I manually switched it off. When I tried Ubuntu 4.10 The screen went black and nothing happened when I left it alone for 2hours: 30min.

Ubuntu is my favorite operating system.

Please help me with this problem.

Thank you for making Ubuntu possible and available to the general public free of charge.
