Need help getting install to work

Sorry if this is an easy question, but I am trying to install Ubuntu on my Windows PC.

I downloaded Ubuntu 7.04 and did a CRC check on it before burning the .iso file to a CD.

When it runs the autorun file off the CD from Windows, I choose the option "Check Disk Integrity". It told me it found 4 errors.

Then when I reboot and it starts loading the kernel from the CD I get:

hdc: error code: 0x70 sense_key: 0x03 asc: 0x02 ascq:0x00
buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block etc etc

So then I tried downloading Ubuntu 6.06LTS. I basically get the 2nd line of what I show above.

Obviously it's a hard disk problem, but not sure how to resolve.

thanks in advance
