kernel > 2.6.20-16 message sanitize start, sanitize end

Hello,

I wonder if dmesg from a kernel newer than 2.6.20-16 also shows a line
'sanitize start' and a line 'sanitize end'.
What is the function of these procedures?
I am told that both procedures are due to vanish in newer kernel
releases.
