Hello,
I am unable to get either to allow me on the internet. I have a Linksys Wireless Router with DHCP enabled, and the routers address is 192.168.1.1, which I have tried to use DHCP on both cards, as well as I tried to setup either one up using a static address like example:
192.168.1.10
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1
and I hit the checkmark, and the network status icon goes to show manual network configuration, but I can still NOT bring up a webpage, no matter what I try, I even tried clicking roaming checkbox, whatever that means. Please help me, I am lost here, I know the Netgear card works fine, I have and still do use it in my dual boot situation with winbloze xp, with no problem, I also had a problem with Debian version 40r1 so, I think it may be versions made off the debian system, because I have in the past ran Mandrake, and then Mandriva 2007, and also Gentoo, and did NOT have a problem connecting to and surfing the internet and my network as well. I also ran Slackware a Long, Long Time Ago, where I had to setup the network files manually under rc.d etc.. and as long as I had my Slackware book along side, I had no problem, but the files are NOT the same under Debian versions such as Ubuntu, Knoppix as Slackware, the dirs are different along with configuration files. I am not above modifying the interfaces file, and any other you can tell me that I will need, or if I need to load a new device driver to get the Netgear card working which uses the Liteon chipset. For some reason my Via Rhine II onboard network card doesn't work, it never has worked properly, even under winbloze, so please help me if you can.
I will even go so far as to take my fujitsu tablet over to my linux box, and type out any results you need, or what I have in config files, if you can tell me what information you need, and what files I need to edit, etc.. I really need to get Unbutu working, as I develop games using the Torque Engine, and this is the most popular linux flavor, even of the developers of Torque, hence I will be able to get help for setting Torque up, and all the modelers and map editors etc.. like quark under ubuntu the easiest. So Please help, I am begging you, and anyone that can help me, I will promise to set you up as a beta tester of our new Multiplayer Death Fest game with Throwback style to Hexen, only updated with realtime physics, real 3d Models for the wizards, and evil demons, ghosts, etc.. Along with the Tech Support Building theme mixed with an insane asylum, btw: 90% of the game is designed, and several models are already done, but I want to do the real development on Linux, since I feel more at Home coding in C++ and the C-Script using linux editors, along with the desktop layout is alot nicer imho.
Also, btw, sorry to have two questions in one, but I also noticed, in the blocked special services, I had my nVidia driver listed but it would NOT let me enable it, this is a MUST, for my 3D Game Development. Please Help me, and if you can, can you email me directly at: storm3 at twlakes.net, since I find it hard wading through as many emails as I get on a daily basis from both the debian and the ubuntu mailing lists, and my game developer lists. Just use the Subject, I have since I have setup a rule to snag any emails with that subject and put them into a special HELPME folder.
Thanks for understanding, it has been a while since I have hammered in linux, a Long While.
