Anyone got 6.10 or 7.04 running on a Thinkpad 1161-93G?

I have managed in the past to install 6.06 on this machine using the
"iqrpoll" kernel parameter in GRUB, but no later Ubuntu kernel will
work. They all freeze on startup when the kernel probes the USB
controller, right after finding the secondary IDE channel.
I think this might be related to the problem described here:

Is there a load switch for Ubuntu similar to Mandrake's "nousb" to
prevent the kernel probing the USB interface as it books? I've tried
appending "nousb" to the boot line on the 7.04 LiveCD but it makes no
difference. The "irqpoll" switch doesn't seem to work either, although
it does on Xandros 4 (kernel 2.6.18).
