I would prefer VariCAD over QCad.
But VariCAD is no Free Software so you have to pay for it. But IMO it's worth 
it's price.
Varicad is a not only a 2D CAD program but also full 3D volume modeller.
It is tremendous fast, much faster than ACAD running on the same hardware 
platform.
