Odd DNS problem

as I said, I am set to roaming for my networking, and all I have in my
resolve.conf file is my modem which serves as both DHCP and DNS server

nameserver 192.168.0.1

I can resolve most domains properly, it's just that I seem to be
seeing more "server not found" error messages than usual, and in at
least the one case, www.vmware.com, this was stopping me from working
properly.
