I have solutions (maybe) :-) What HP do you have? I have a pavilion
dv6000.

What does lsusb tell you?

$ lsusb
Bus 005 Device 024: ID 0c45:62c0 Microdia

If you get the same ID (0c45:62c0) it is at least semi-supported via
uvcvideo. Unfortunately, _nothing_ in Feisty supports that camera, afaict.
Also unfortunately, the DV6000 may also come with an unsupported Ricoh
webcam.

Under feisty, I downloaded & compile luvcview (just google for it), and was
able to get the webcam to work. It didn't work under mplayer or kopete. I
installed ekiga, which I'd been told worked (it didn't).

Since installing gutsy, I can now get it to work under kopete. I'm getting
more promising results from mplayer (and there's a patch I want to try
out), and it still doesn't work under ekiga. It's not my most pressing
problem though, so I haven't tried anything for a couple of days.
