I'm not an expert, but I'm also running apache locally for development
purposes.
Have you looked in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled ?
There's a default file, and I defined a virtual host by putting my
hostname in there in place of the *
I don't know if that's the proper way to do it, but it worked for me
(TM)
