I believe it was called something like "StartUp Options" in
System/Administration
or System/Preferences.  How I found it was when the bios was set correctly, and
I attached an external monitor, it booted perfectly - but the image
was very large.
So, I dug around and found that Grub was set for 800x600.  The T41 screen would
not display that.  Why it takes so long I can't answer.  But once the
Grub resolution
was set correctly it boots quickly and correctly.
