I don't know if it works for me. But it worked for me.
Open a terminal and issue this command: sudo asoundconf list
Then: sudo asoundconf set-default-card xxx
Note xxx should be your ICH3
Then try to reboot. For some, it does not need to reboot.
Then go to the sound panel and check if the mute is on, if it is, turn
it off.
