If you have a Radeon HD (for example the Radeon HD 2600) you need the
newest fglrx drivers otherwise it does not work. Since you have an
older one, it works.

My question to XGL was: Gutsy supports compiz-fusion out of the box.
This worked for example on my workstation, where I have a Radeon X600.
However this GPU is supported by the open source Radeon driver and
therefore worked with AIGLX. If you have a GPU which requires
restricted drives (either the fglrx or the nvidia drivers) will/should
Ubuntu also automatically configure/enable XGL with compiz-fusion or
do you have to enable it by hand?
