     If they're SATA or USB, they just might; check out a recent "live 
CD" and see if it does.  I've not owned a laptop, but each time I've 
worked on one, they've always struck me as a less-compatible Swiss 
watch: no two parts by different manufacturers are the same. Forget the 
cotton gin and interchangeable parts...these are laptops.  :)

    Yeah, it's not one "thing"; there are times it makes huge leaps, 
seemingly all at once.  The underlying concept is that, each time bugs 
are found and code isn't re-written, the code gets better; we never 
throw things away that actually work, and solve a problem.  Windows has; 
and that will cost them in terms of bugs.  But there'll come a day when 
the advances of Linux will outstep the legion of MS programmers put onto 
a task, and still the code will be robust and sure.  Detracting from 
that is how odd hardware with propriety seems to get in the way, at times.
