Thanks Andrew (et al); the problem was fixed by renaming the
$HOME/.adobe/Acrobat/7.0/ to
$HOME/.adobe/Acrobat/x-7.0-x/
[can be deleted as well]

Bilala.

The install of 8.1.1 from the Adobe .debs on Feisty (and from Medibuntu
on Gutsy) leaves a 7.0 folder in $HOME/.adobe/Acrobat/. Deleting or
renaming the folder resolves the problem (for me anyway).
