dvdrip

I got a set of files from a friend of mine today; he said it was in
_dvdrip_ format. It amounts to a folder full of .IFO, .VOB, and .BUP
files. I did find some information on a package called dvdrip for
kubuntu, but couldn't find much in the way of a cli to do this, so I
installed dvdrip. Odd part is, it says it has all the mandatory parts
it needs, but after filling out the screens for _ripping_ this into an
avi, there is no _go_ button, and I don't see that anything actually
happened. It seems that this front end is based on transcoder, and I've
taken an avi file and turned it into an iso file for a dvd before, but
never done any other translations.
Is there something I'm missing about dvdrip? (Or does anyone here know
about the cli for transcoder that would do this?)
Thanks, as always for the feedback.
