A (rough) install guide for anyone interested.  Output of lspci at
bottom.  Standard disclaimers apply - YMMV. etc.

vostro 1500 plus gutsy beta

Install from CD (pre-partitioned free space)

backup xorg.conf

Enable wacom - edit xorg.conf - uncomment three lines

Enable network (Intel pro 3945) in applet

perform dist-upgrade (select a fast mirror first ;)

reboot

backup xorg.conf

unable restricted module - nvidia

reboot

backup xorg.conf

dpkg reconfigure xserver-xorg

re-uncomment three lines in xorg.conf

reboot

get alsa-driver-1.0.15rc3.tar.bz2

install 'build-essential' and 'checkinstall'

unpack, ./configure --with-cards=hda-intel, make

sudo checkinstall (did not work)

reboot

sudo make install (worked - why did 'checkinstall' fail?)

reboot

Synaptic touchpad vert scroll does not work when Wacom is plugged in on boot
