Well first i am not a LTSP expert.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ltsp
<---------------------------------------------------
On the LTSP server a chroot environment is set up with a minimal Linux
operating system and X environment.
--------------------------------------------------->
Are you sure you really not need an Xserver?
That would explain:

And i wonder what you mean with "windows clients".
Are those configured to connect the LTSP server?
Again i am no expert in this area since i haven´t used it myself.
I am just wondering how to make win-boxes work together with LTSP since i
allways thought LTSP-Clients are just 'dump' displays for what is actually
running on the Linux-Server.
<---------------------------------------------------
When a client[2] boots[3] from a local boot device (like a harddisk, CD-ROM
or USB disk), it loads a small Linux kernel from that device which
initializes the system and all of the peripherals that it recognizes.
--------------------------------------------------->
That means the client *is* running Linux afterwards.
Maybe you need to change your network topology and bypassing the server for
the win boxes to connect to internet (when that´s there 'only' purpose).
bye
