Well, I was surprised to hear her mention vi.   I love it, but it's
learning curve is really a cliff - especially since I believe the
Ubuntu default is a crufty vi-minimal version.  At the very least
install gvim (vim-x11 or whatever Ubuntu calls it - I don't have it in
front of me) if you want to learn it,  but hey - let's stick to one
learning experience at a time right?
