Thanks you all guys.
I have reverted to the original fstab, rebooted, ran again ntfs config but I
do not get the screen with the detected partitions. Checked also the
gconf-editor to make sure that the visible drives box was checked. I wonder
if the problem is that I want to mount the drive in my /mnt directory rather
than /media. I cannot change that because it would screw up all my bookmarks
in Krusader.
The important thing is that I can read and write the WinXP partition :-)
(Actually I discovered that I like my desktop uncluttered)
