What Albert suggests will work. Here is a grapic of that process:

Note: you'll need to reboot and/or log out and log back in for the
changes to take effect on many/most systems.

You can also reverse Arijit's instructions (modified accordingly) to do
the same for FAT32 etc drives:

Open "Gnome configuration editor" (known as gconf-editor) by entering
Alt-F2 then enter 'gconf-editor'.
Go to the key
(left side) : /apps/nautilus/desktop/
on the right-hand, select "volumes_visible" checkbox.
