Use the mgetty/sendfax package. i used it long ago and it was beautiful

must be much better today

allowing to send faxes from files or mails, and receive fax to files, mails, printer.

one machine in your group (server) is responsible of the modem-fax and all others
can use it as easily as sending en Email to the user 555-1212 at fax or printing a file on
the FAX printer, (with a popup asking for the tel number)

(PS: all this, supposing you configure it this way, there are other ways...)
