is it possible to edit files directly on FTP?

Yeah right, Cyberduck does it on my Mac. FUSE is OK but I really  
don't want to end up adding 40+ entries to Fstab. Gnome desktop lets  
you connect connect to FTP server and shows the folders in nautilus  
which is perfect!! *BUT* almost useless since even Gedit won't let  
you save directly back to it :( :( :(:(
