Here you can download important codecs

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html

sudo mkdir /usr/lib/win32
(creates a directory by the name win32 in the /usr/lib directory)

Copy the codecs into /usr/lib/win32

It has worked for mee, both in debian etch, ubuntu 7.04 and 7.10

Without proper codecs no proper video

With the newer ubuntu versions, everything becomes more and more automatic.

A smile to everybody (also to the developers who does a great job).

:-)
