telling apt to ignore some package dependencies

I needed OpenOffice 2.3 in Kubuntu 7.04 Feisty and wanted the KDE
integration. The install from the packages from openoffice.org kept
freezing and the KDE integration did not work at all. So, I downloaded
the debs from the Ubuntu archive for 7.10 Gutsy and forecefully
installed them. They seem to work great. However, when I try to
install anything else apt-get complains about all the broken
dependencies with openoffice packages and won't install anything else.
I thought apt_preferences might be able to handle this. Is there any
way I can tell it just to ingore all the openoffice dependency issues?
