Ubuntu ISO Files as CD on VMware Server

Folks, 

I was just trying the Gutsy ISO file in Live CD mode on VMware Server -
and it hung my system. 

I have VMware Server 1.04 installed on a Dapper Drake system.

When I burn the ISO file to a physical CD, and point VMware Server to
the physical drive, it works fine. But obviously, it's slower and is
therefore more annoying for test purposes.

I remember reading about this problem a while back, but my googling
reveals nothing. A link or pointer to the previous discussion would be
appreciated.
