Ubuntu desktop with compiz

So, I would like to try putting the Ubuntu Desktop up, yes, including
the compiz pieces.

1. How does this work with the ATI driver compiled from an AMD package?
When I installed the restricted modules and issued

glxinfo | grep direct

I found that there was no direct rendering. Only with the compiled AMD
package do I have true 3d acceleration.

2. I assume I have to install the xserver-xgl package (am I right?)

3. Do I have to remove all the beryl packages before installing the
compiz packages?
