Ed~
I have had a similar problem with a hardware dongle for a software
package that I tested in vmware workstation 5.  Our company even
purchased upgrade licenses to 6.0 without any further success.  If you
find any more information that leads toward a solution, I would be very
interested in hearing what you find in this regard.
