Maybe you could first try to run your 710 T with its native resolution
of 1280x1024? Then see, if the problem persists.

If you happen to have a Docking station with DVI Connector for your IBM,
I also would connect the Samsung digitally via DVI.

At least then, your screen should exactly display what your computer
delivers.
