lightest possible weight ubuntu?

Hi Michele,

I believe XUbuntu would run decent on that laptop. If it does not, fluxbox
is even faster, but as a steeper learning curve. Once you figure it out
though, there is no going back :)

On the other hand, you might want to try www.damnsmalllinux.org It is a
Linux distro that fits in 50MB on a CD, and can even be installed on the
hard-drive. Like Ubuntu, it is based on Debian.

Unfortunately, I don't think that Gnome (or KDE for that matter) can run
quick enough to be usable on that hardware (except if you would go for 512MB
RAM).
