Help requested - restore video setting 7.10

I ran into similar problems last night - luckily I had a backup copy
of xorg.conf.  While I was restoring it, I noticed several xorg.conf.#
files (where # is number starting at 1).  I would guess that these are
incremental backups - you might try restoring one of them:
sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf_HOSED
sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf.# /etc/X11/xorg.conf
