How to explicitly drop dynamic network connection in favor of static one?

For most of us, it _is_ a minor detail.  Very few desktop users need - or
can even get - static IPs.

It isn't perfect, but it's still more use than /etc/network/interfaces -
especially for mobile users - because it handles switching between
interfaces better.
