I tried copying just "beryl-xgl" from the beryl-core package from 
beryl-project.org into /usr/bin.  Then, I used the rest of the beryl 
from universe repository.  Since you report such good experience, I 
think I'll try the whole beryl-project.org repository.  Maybe I'll get 
lucky too.  Also, I'm running on kde, but that shouldn't matter.
