How to run glxgears in Feisty?

Hmm, that is quite odd... The copy of glxgears I have runs like always,
the same behavior from old versions. And I have the latest version of
mesa-utils (the package that provides glxgears).

Perhaps your copy got overwritten by something? Try reinstalling
mesa-utils.
`sudo aptitude reinstall mesa-utils`
