nVidia graphics driver makes my 7.04 crash

Have a look in Xorg error messages. I'm having the same problem with a 
Geforce 440 class processor. The new nvidia driver (shipped a few days 
ago) refuses to start, saying my chip is not supported and I have to use 
Legacy. However, Edgy's non-legacy driver worked fine. Pain is legacy is 
around the 7000 version number and doesn't mork on my laptop.

You can try installing the nvidia Legacy driver with synaptic.
