Actually, I haven't done that. I was misremembering. I did do it a
long time ago in order to test something, but there is actually only one
other, completely separate version with it's own /home that has been
unused for some long time, when I was experimenting with MythTV and
should have been deleted. I think it is irrelevant to the problem. It's
partition gets mounted as /media/hda12.
