[Feisty] Normal ways to kill xserver don't work

Hmmm... this produced a seeminly normal boot to the graphical desktop.
The line "quiet" was there, but "splash" wasn't.

I also tried "sudo killall Xorg, as Andy suggested, but that again made
the screen go black and freeze. It's strange that my monitor also goes
into stand-by mode when this freezing happeneds.

There must be something currently wrong with Feisty in this regard. In
my previous installation (not counting those nine which I have done
during the last few days) I was able kill x from the command line. I
don't remember how I did it, but it must have been one of the ways I
have tried now. Perhaps I should report this as a bug. If I do, I'd
first like to hear if there's anyone with a fresh Feisty installation
who can access the command line normally and kill the xserver there.
