But if you actually read the bug reports you see that the maintainer is
too busy workin on NM to set the bug status. Most of these reports have
comments further down that say "this has been resolved for me" or "the
latest update should fix this"

Again, read the actual reports. It changes the picture somewhat since
work _is being done on them.

Yeah, I find that confusing too. And the typography on the first page
kills my eyes

Yeah, agreed. This is an overall concern for me though. If I read the
spec list [1] I get the feeling that much of the stuff that should be in
Feisty is not ready for a beta. But then I am not the release manager
and I am sure he has a better overview because it's his job to have one.
So far all release have worked out fine, so I have no reason to be
scared or complain

I can only repeat, that status is not what is important. It iw well
known that there is always not enough manpower to update launchpad. If
you want to help you can join the bug squad
