I'm using a Logitech Cordless Mini Optical with my Ubuntu installation
on a Dell Inspiron 1100 without any jumpiness at all. This type of
mouse should look like any standard USB mouse to Ubuntu. Its not a
matter of recognizing a particular mouse type or brand. They are fairly
standardized nowadays. I do have my acceleration and sensitivity set
slightly lower than medium for my preference. But, jumpy, no!
I know this may not help, just throwin in my 2 cents for what it's worth.
