ALT+F2 (Run command) takes ages to write a program name

If I haven't used Alt-F2 in a while, it does take a few moments for it
to appear, but if I've used it recently, the dialog appears instantly
for me.

/usr/share/applications, if I'm not mistaken.

Caching occurs automatically in the filesystem when you access the
files. If you don't have a lot of memory available, then less will be
allocated to the file cache and fewer files will fit into it.
